Gold Shading Tutorial

This is how I make shiny gold. I really looks quite nice, if I do say so myself.

The is Leo, the 5th sign of the Zodiac!

Here's what we're aiming at. See all that pretty gold? That's what we're doing.

This is a funny little man. Ain't he cute? This is gold. This is actually two layers; the chain and the medallion. But you don't know that! Accept, now you do, 'cause I told you.

Now, I generally do the gold last, so if you do the same, get your almost-complete doll. If you do the gold first, get the base.

It's time to draw the pretty gold jewellery. I only use one colour, which is, of course, the picture.

Draw the jewellery. You can have it one pixel thick, or you can have it be a thicker necklace or whatever, and have it two pixels thick. Or three.

Layers! Don't you love 'em? I used 37 to make this little guy. I had to shrink this picture, 'cause it was so darn big. I made his hair disapear! He he he...

Now for the shading. I usually (always) use about a million layers. So I duplicate the jewellery layer, and call it "Gold Shading." This way, if I screw up, I can change my mind.

Now get the Burn tool. Set the size to something resonable (I used 8), set the exposure to 100%, and turn off the airbrush.

Now start shading. The shading should be extremely dark.

Still no hair... Congratualities! That's my new word of the day.

Now, make a new layer, and do the same with the Dodge tool. Make sure the settings are the same!

Congrats! You're done! Easy, wasn't it? Now go do lots of jewellery, like I did!
