About My Writing

Last updated: March 8, 2008

My stories are fantasy, but some are more fantastical than others. Lately, I've moved away from the standard fantasy of Tolkien-imatators to something (hopefully) more my own. One of my current projects, TSFKaDotF, is set in the early days of an industrial revolution. My other project, Areathe, is closer to high fantasy.

Everything is spelled the correct way for Canadian/British English. That means there's a 'u' in colour, favourite, humour, etc. If you don't like it, tough. I'm Canadian (eh?).

This section of my site almost never updates. I recently became aware that by publishing my writing online, I am essentially killing my ability to publish it on paper. Luckily, I have nothing online at the moment that is worthy of paper-publishing, but such a thing could happen. This doesn't mean I'll never put anything else up; it just means that I probably won't put up anything longer than a short story unless I've finished it and decided that it's not publishable.

Consequently, a lot of of the writing here is old. Really old. Most of the short stories are from when I was in grades eight through ten. Since then, I've moved more into novels (which are long enough to be a pain to put into html). So please excuse the quality.

And in case you're curious, I'm currently working on a novel with the working title 'Areathe'. I work on it once a week when possible (which is usual), at between five to ten pages per session (Times New Roman size 12 with normal word-processor pages). It's completely plotted (and I don't think too much random stuff will show up), so the end is somewhat in sight. Then there's editing, though, and deciding whether it's publishable or website-able. Don't expect anything on that front in the near future.

I also write novels every November for NaNoWriMo. My first NaNo, Con Artist Extraordinairre, is available on my Fictionpress account. My second NaNo sucked, so I redid the world and turned the plot into a subplot and used that for my third NaNo (which was in 2007). It's in need of revision (mainly because I left lots of spots empty, with a note to come back to it later, which I haven't yet), and I probably won't work on it until I'm at least done the rough draft of Areathe.

I have a faint inkling that could become another story for after I'm done with Areathe (and possibly my NaNo '07 novel). It may by entirely for practice, and thus go on the internet. I'm making no promises yet, though.

And lastly, as a bit of history: I've been writing since I was six. My Grade One teacher made us write every Friday. I actually liked it, though, so I also wrote stuff on my own time. My most famous works to date are a series of stories about a grey tabbycat named Misty and her friend Snowball, a persian, written when I was eight. My family likes to brag about them, much to my chagrin. I've one a couple awards (always Third Place) for short stories at my high school, and got one of the Top Writing Student awards (my friend Hwesta got the other) in Grade Twelve. I'm now studying linguistics in uni, which is totally useful! (JRR Tolkien and one of the Brothers Grimm were linguists!)

The stories are my property. If you steal them, bad things will happen. Believe me. I'm really quite creative when it comes to bad things.
