My stories are fantasy, but some are more fantastical than others. Lately, I've moved away from the standard fantasy of Tolkien-imatators to something (hopefully) more my own. One of my current projects, The Cal Hanley Papers, is set in the early days of an industrial revolution. Another project, Areathe, is closer to high fantasy. A third project (which needs a name) is closer to our time, but with magic.
Everything is spelled the correct way for Canadian/British English. That means there's a 'u' in colour, favourite, humour, etc. If you don't like it, tough. I'm Canadian (eh?).
This section of my site almost never updates. I recently became aware that by publishing my writing online, I am essentially killing my ability to publish it on paper. Luckily, I have nothing online at the moment that is worthy of paper-publishing, but such a thing could happen. This doesn't mean I'll never put anything else up; it just means that I probably won't put up anything longer than a short story unless I've finished it and decided that it's not publishable. (I'm currently working on something that might count as that, too...)
Consequently, a lot of of the writing here is old. Really old. Most of the short stories are from when I was in grades eight through ten. Since then, I've moved more into novels (which are long enough to be a pain to put into html). So please excuse the quality.
And in case you're curious, I currently have three-ish projects, depending on how you count these things. I have a novel, Areathe, which I've been working on since forever and will probably never finish; it's in the draft phase. Then there are The Cal Hanley Papers, which is a series; I'm in the process of editing the first. The third project is something I've been writing on the fly for the hell of it, and it's pretty random. Fun to write, though. (I also have the vaguest of ideas for something, but we'll call that in the pre-prewriting stage. No draft for that until TCHP01 is edited.)
I also write novels every November for NaNoWriMo. My first NaNo, Con Artist Extraordinairre, is available on my Fictionpress account. My second NaNo sucked, so I redid the world and turned the plot into a subplot and used that for my third NaNo (which was in 2007), which is the first of The Cal Hanley Papers (TCHP01). 2008's novel was the sequel (TCHP02), and presumably 2009's novel will be TCHP03.
I also have a couple of short stories and one fanfiction that I consider decent, but coding takes a while. Maybe in the future. We'll see.
And lastly, as a bit of history: I've been writing since I was six. My Grade One teacher made us write every Friday. I actually liked it, though, so I also wrote stuff on my own time. My most famous works to date are a series of stories about a grey tabbycat named Misty and her friend Snowball, a persian, written when I was eight. My family likes to brag about them, much to my chagrin. I've one a couple awards (always Third Place) for short stories at my high school, and got one of the Top Writing Student awards (my friend Hwesta got the other) in Grade Twelve. I'm now studying linguistics in uni, which is totally useful! (JRR Tolkien and one of the Brothers Grimm were linguists!) (I'm also studying Japanese... let's call that useful, too, though I'm not too sure why...)

And as a final word, the contents of this story are so copywrite me, as of 2009. No, really. Copywrite is automatic, and includes stuff on the internet.
